Tableware

  • A few words on Wedgewood

I LOVE Wedgwood. The classic white on blue matte porceleine especially. I bought a little dressing table dish from a man on Portobello last year and went back to him several times for Christmas presents the following weekends. Since then I have gone with Wedgewood on two very important gifts. The first was for a best friend's 30th birthday during the summer. She had been complaining about a lack of teacups for quite some time and found the perfect cups and saucers for her in the Wedgewood Cuckoo collection. They even come in the most beautiful hatbox style boxes!

I got them in different colours.  You don't want to ever be too matchy!  I think this collection has been designed that way anyway and hopefully she can add to it over the years to come with all the other beautiful pieces they have to offer.

I especially love the cake stand!  The perfect excuse to eat cake every day!

Wedgewood saved the day again last weekend when choosing a gift for the wedding of an old schoolfriend in the beautiful town of Adare, Co. Limerick, Ireland. Again, I wanted to buy something classic that one could add to over the years so I chose four china mugs from the Wedgewood Archive collection.

Actually, apparently this collection has been so popular that Brown Thomas was down to a limited collection but between there and Carraig Donn, I managed to get three out of my top choices but if I had had the choice I would have also bought the Pink Rococo and the Butterfly Dance:

In fact why stop there... the whole collection is just beautiful! They say that when buying presents you always buy what you'd like yourself... I think I'll be starting a little Wedgwood china collection of my own very soon!
