  • Louis Vuitton Series 3 Exhibition

On Sunday afternoon, I went to Louis Vuitton's Series 3 Exhibition with a few friends.  The exhibition is proclaimed to be a reinterpretation of a fashion show and a revelation of the inspiration behind Nicolas Ghesquière’s AW 2015 collection for the brand.

I do not have much patience with exhibitions at the best of times - I like to wander through them at quite a brisk pace, taking in the overall experience and atmosphere, rather than contemplate the history and meaning behind every piece.  And so this exhibition was just the kind I like!  A sensory digital experience that really shows how this luxury Parisian super brand, founded in 1854, has merged the skills and steadfast values of traditional craftsmanship with modern innovation. The results, as anyone acquainted with the brand's creations might appreciate, are hard to beat.  For example, my monogram Neverfull GM, which I also call "my office", really is never full... And its elegant thin straps are deceptive because this bag can carry even more than I can!  Over four years, It has been caught in the rain several times (its carrier lives in London after all) and not cracked in the scorching heat of southern Spain, France, Morocco (and sometimes London).  This is an all-carrying all weather bag that is a simple testament to the durability and high quality of Louis Vuitton's work.  And Series 3 allows fans and idle philomaths alike into the modern world of Louis Vuitton, a world shrouded in digital media, where traditional craftsmen sit alongside laser beam pattern cutting machines to create beautiful pieces.

The exhibition is free and runs until October 18th at 180 The Strand, London.  More information about the exhibition may be found here.
